Alocasia Rhino Aurea Variegated — exact specimen pictured. A hybrid of Alocasia Sinuata × Calidora. Variegation: aurea (gold). Rooted in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix.
The Vibe: She has weight to her, the kind of plant that feels substantial the moment you see her. Two big rounded leaves carry her gold in two moods: the upper one is boldly marbled butter-yellow against green, while the lower leaf glows a soft lime with gentle mottling. Set her in a sunny corner and that butter-gold looks warm enough to touch.
Rhino comes from crossing Sinuata with Calidora, so she pairs heavy, textured leaves with the vigor of a bigger grower. In Aurea form the gold pigment rides through that thick tissue for a look that's both rugged and bright. She's a newly introduced cultivar, and this is one of the very first gold examples we've offered.
Only this one Rhino Aurea is available right now, and her particular marbling won't come around again.
What You Will Receive:
- 🌱 The Exact Plant Pictured: The very Rhino Aurea pictured — the boldly marbled upper leaf and the glowing lime lower leaf you see here — rooted in a chunky aroid mix.
- ✨ A note on her color: Her gold is strongest on the upper leaf and softer on the lower one; each new leaf will set its own balance of yellow and green, and that can't be guaranteed.
Grower's Pro Tip:
Good light is what keeps aurea gold bright, so give her the brightest indirect spot you have, with a little gentle morning sun if it's available. Her thick leaves store water, so let the top inch of mix dry between drinks. At repotting time, our premium Alocasia mix, Root-Phoria Diva, suits a hybrid that's built to grow big.
