The first two weeks after shipping are about building roots and acclimating to your home, not growing leaves. Follow these strict rules to avoid stressing your new plant:

❄️ If your plant arrived cold, do not shock it with immediate heat. Allow it to slowly reach room temperature naturally before placing it into your warm, humid growing area.

🚿 How do I water my rare plant correctly?

Watering is highly dependent on the medium your plant is growing in. Always check the medium before watering.

  • 🪴 Standard Substrate: Water ONLY when the substrate is mostly dry.
  • 🪨 Stratum / Perlite Mixes: Keep the medium lightly damp, but never soaking wet.
  • 🏺 Reservoir Pots: Allow the reservoir to empty completely before refilling. Never keep the roots constantly submerged.

🤔 What is normal behavior for a rare plant after shipping?

Shipping is stressful for live plants. It is completely normal to experience the following as your plant adjusts to its new home:

  • 🍂 One older yellowing leaf (the plant is redirecting energy to its roots)
  • 🪢 Root adjustment and new root growth
  • 🥀 Slight drooping immediately after shipping

Note: The following instructions apply STRICTLY to unrooted, freshly imported plants. If you purchased an established, rooted plant from Mild to Wild Studio, please refer to the General Care instructions above.

Fresh imports require an extra level of specialized care while they recover from international transit and re-establish their root systems.

📦 For the First Week:

  • Keep it sealed: Leave the plant fully sealed inside its humidity dome or container.
  • Keep it warm: Place it in a warm spot, toward the upper end of the ideal 72–85°F range.
  • Limit moss moisture: Keep only a very small amount of moisture in the moss.
🚨 Mild to Wild Pro Tip: Preventing Import Rot
The moss should feel barely damp, not wet. Too much water is the #1 reason fresh imports rot. Before you water, ask yourself: Are there healthy roots? Is the medium actually dry?

  • Repot: You may now repot the import into your preferred medium.
  • Lower humidity: Begin slowly acclimating the plant to lower room humidity.
  • Resume watering: Resume a normal watering schedule only after new root growth begins.
